Second phase of North Littlehampton development approved

Land north of Toddington Lane will have 117 homes built on it by Bovis Homes, following the start of the first phase by Persimmon Homes.

Arun District Council’s development control committee approved a reserved matters application last Wednesday, including fine details of the scheme and its access road.

Littlehampton town councillor Derrick Chester addressed the committee, welcoming tweaks to the designs secured after negotiations between officers and Bovis.

But he said he remained concerned about the current access to the site.

Speaking after the meeting, he said: “I am worried about the current access to the site, through a congested junction at Lyminster Road and Mill Lane into Toddington Lane, a narrow road with no footpath.

“With increasing numbers of construction vehicles, construction workers and properties at the new Hollyacre development ready for occupation soon, in the interests of everybody’s safety, improvements should take place as soon as possible.”

Mr Chester also raised the issue of sewage, with a permanent solution yet to be agreed with Southern Water.

Officer Neil Crowther agreed it was a ‘significant issue’.

The second phase of development will consist of a mix of two, three or four bedroom properties, up to a maximum of three storeys.

This portion of development will include a provision of 20 per cent affordable housing.
