Police investigating the fatal crash in which a 20-year-old Handcross man died at Ansty on Sunday (January 27) have renewed their appeal for witnesses.

Jay Ansell died when his white Volkswagen Golf left the B2036 at Harvest Hill between Burgess Hill and Ansty in the early hours.

He had been travelling north and the vehicle had cooled by the time police were alerted shortly after 3.30am, leading officers to believe that the crash may have happened some time earlier.

Sergeant Mark Baker from the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit said: “We’d like to hear from anyone who may have seen this vehicle and in particular we would like to speak to the driver of a blue Transit van who stopped and spoke to officers in a police patrol car at 3.31am.

“He told them about the car off the road, but did not leave his name.

“Please call Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Southcott or e-mail collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.”
