Puppy love has tails wagging at doggy dinner

PUPPY love paid off at a fund-raising dinner for rescue dogs in Shoreham.

Dogs and their owners shared a Valentine’s dinner last Tuesday to raise money for Dogs Trust Shoreham.

The event, organised by Southwick vet Marc Abraham and Razak Helalat, owner of The Coal Shed in Brighton, certainly had tails wagging.

The idea was to find a fun way to raise money for the rehoming centre and the £200 donated will now be used to buy food, bedding, and toys.

On arrival, the pampered pooches and their well-behaved humans enjoyed venison liver treats and a glass of bubbly, respectively, before tucking into a tasty steak dinner.

While the two-legged diners were offered coffee and chocolates for dessert, the happy hounds polished off gallons of nutritious doggy ice cream.

Adding to the funds was a raffle, with the first prize being a 60cm x 60cm oil on canvas head and shoulder dog portrait of the winner by renowned animal artist Sara Abbott.

This was won by Buster, a cheeky young “puggle” pug and beagle pup.

At the end, everyone was given a doggy goody bag to take home.

Marc, vet at Grove Lodge Vets in Southwick Street, said: “It’s been a fantastic night.

“To see so many brilliant dogs and their lovely owners coming together to raise money for rescue dogs – the evening really couldn’t have gone any better.

“Thanks to The Coal Shed and their brilliant staff for accommodating such a unique fun event, and all for a good cause too.”

After the event, Razak tweeted: “A big thank you to all who helped to make last night so special... Very proud.”
