Protect your vote with an up to date signature

People who vote in elections by post or proxy are being asked by Mid Sussex District Council to renew their signatures.

People who vote by post or proxy provide a signature and a date of birth when they first apply and their details are compared with the postal vote they submit at election time.

As the way a person signs documents can change over time, Mid Sussex District Council is required by law to get a fresh signature every five years. This ensures that all postal and proxy votes remain secure.

Therefore, anyone who applied for a postal or proxy vote between February, 1, 2007 and January, 31, 2008 will be sent a signature refresh form. These forms are being posted now to all those concerned and residents are urged to sign and return the form by February, 21, 2013.

People can help save the Council and tax payer’s money by returning the form immediately. If the council does not receive forms by this date, they are legally obliged to send reminders.

If you have a disability which means that you either cannot provide a signature or sign in a consistent and distinctive way, please contact the Mid Sussex District Council elections office for a different form.

People who do not return the signature refresh form by the deadline of March, 12, 2013 will have their existing postal or proxy voting facility cancelled and will have to vote in person or make a new application.

If you no longer want to vote by post you must respond by ticking the relevant box on the form and return it to the council as soon as possible.
