ADUR chairman Peter Metcalfe has been touring the district presenting portraits of the Queen to be placed in schools and other key buildings.

He used his chairman’s allowance to pay for 16 framed photographs of the official Queen’s jubilee portrait.

“I think it is nice to have an up to date photograph,” he told the Herald.

Presentations were made to 12 schools in Shoreham and Lancing, as well as Shoreham Royal British Legion, Lancing Royal British Legion, Sussex Yacht Club and Adur District Council.

Mr Metcalfe said it had been great to visit the premises and meet the people involved, adding that he had had a very warm welcome.

The presentations followed a letter to Mr Metcalfe from Sandringham House, in which he was thanked for the Christmas card designed by Charlotte Alford from Herons Dale School.

“The Queen wishes me to write and thank you all for the card, beautifully designed by Charlotte Alford at Hersons Dale Primary School, which you sent at Christmas,” wrote lady-in-waiting Susan Hussey.

“Her Majesty greatly appreciated your kind thought for her at this time and sends you her best wishes for 2013.”

Mr Metcalfe said: “It’s not every day one receives a letter from Her Majesty the Queen.”

He said the Christmas card had been sent on behalf of the residents of Adur and he had written how much he had enjoyed seeing her apparently parachuting into the Olympic arena.
