Mayor helps centenarian celebrate her birthday

Worthing mayor and mayoress Michael Donin and Linda Williams helped a Worthing centenarian to celebrate at her birthday party.

Marjorie Evans was joined by family and friends at Bakers Court, retirement flats in Salvington Road.

Scheme manager Phylliss Geall said: “She is a very private lady. She has lived at Bakers Court for 12 years and says she loves it here.”

Marjorie was born In Nottingham on April 14, 1916, and later trained as a nurse. She has a son and daughters, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The lounge was decked with sparkling birthday banners and balloons, including some in silver spelling out ‘100’, and guests were treated to a glass of fizz to toast the birthday girl on her big day. Marjorie also received a 100th birthday card from the Queen.
