Match day parking discussed at meeting

A scrutiny panel will meet tomorrow (Thursday February 21) to discuss issues surrounding match day parking in neighbourhoods surrounding the Broadfield Stadium during Crawley Town football games.

The Crawley Town FC Travel Partnership Scrutiny Panel has been investigating the affect parking during match days is having on the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Public meetings were held in Tilgate and Southgate so panel members could hear residents’ views on whether parking was a problem.

At the meeting at 7pm in the town hall the panel will consider options to help ease parking, including putting more community wardens in the area, starting a match day parking residents only scheme, introducing yellow lines that apply at all times, and improving public transport.

The panel will also consider a park and ride scheme at Pease Pottage, allowing parking in school car parks and industrial estates, building a new multi-storey car park at the rear of K2, and tannoy announcements at the football club about parking responsibly.

Members will discuss their findings and recommendations for the panel’s final report into the parking situation which is due to be submitted to Crawley Borough Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Commission on March 18.
