Flooding and fallen trees greeted Crawley residents this morning (Christmas Eve) after the town was battered by a storm.

In the town centre, a large branch fell from a tree opposite the new Morrisons development, while another fell across Brighton Road.

A branch fell on a house in Farnham Close, Broadfield, at 12.20am. Firefighters attended but there was no damage.

Flooding closed Haslett Avenue East at the junction with Station Hill, while Gatwick Road was closed in both directions.

Metrobus has suspended several of its services, including Route 2 between Ifield West and Ifield Parade due to fallen trees and flooding.

The stormy weather overnight into this morning has caused considerable difficulties for our rail network and the surrounding road network.

Southern has suspended all train services while staff work to clear flooding, blockages and fallen trees from the line.
