VIDEO: Ben weaves his magic to get a gig with Oasis rocker Liam

Waiting for Video...

When Ben Taylor was a young boy he dreamed of becoming a magician.

But as he played with his magic set at a six-year-old, he never could he have imagined that it would lead him to one of his idols – Oasis star, Liam Gallagher.

Talented Ben, 22, whose stage name is the Magic Mod, from Tilgate, is heavily influenced by the Mods and combines his magic with the 60s fashion style.

He entered a competition for fans set up by Liam Gallagher’s clothing line, Pretty Green, to make a video of himself performing a magic trick for their website, and abracadabra, the company loved it, and it could now be played in stores in Manchester, Brighton and London.

Ben said: “That was my biggest achievement so far. I had to do a bit of magic with an Oasis song playing in the background. After a couple of hours thinking what to do, I decided to wear a parker and a yellow shirt and then I did a 360 degree turn and I was wearing a Pretty Green shirt. I sent them the video and they loved it and said how did you do that?”

The Magic Mod has already performed at gigs, parties and at nightclubs, but says his biggest dream would be to get his big break and eventually open his own magic shop.

He said: “I started magic from a young age and by the time I was ten I was practising about two to three hours a day. I turned professional when I was 18.

“I always take my cards out with me to entertain people. It sounds funny but they are like my clothing, I feel naked without them. And that is why I do magic, because I like to make people smile.

“I am really passionate about magic and I love the Mods style. It was my sister that said why don’t I combine the two for my name, The Magic Mod. I thought that was a good idea and I started getting my self out there.

“The next step I would like to take, and really my dream, is to open a magic shop and possibly teach magic to children in school.

“There are so many 10,11,12 year olds who love magic but it is so difficult for them to get into it now and they are the future of the industry. I need to get my big break really. I am proud of how far I have come already. I do think it is important to keep your feet on the ground. I would like to say to anyone else interested in magic that anything is possible, and go for it. My mum and dad are my biggest fans and my dad has really helped me. He said to me, you are only going to be happy if you do something you like, and he is right. He has always wanted me to do well and has been a massive influence.

“I want my magic tricks to live forever and influence magic for generations to come.”
