Three people have been seriously injured in a three vehicle collision on the A272 Cuckfield bypass.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 8.50am today (Wednesday December 5) where a Ford van, a BMW and a Toyota Rav4 had been involved in the collision, the van rolling on to its side.
The three seriously injured people, two men and a woman, have all been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
Two have life-threatening injuries and one is described as having life-changing injuries.
The male driver of the Toyota is being treated for minor injuries.
The road remained closed at 2.30pm and motorists are urged to take alternative routes; however, smaller roads within the area are experiencing serious congestion.
A considerable amount of debris and vehicle fluids have to be cleared from the road prior to it being reopened.
Crash investigators have examined the scene, but there is no confirmation at this stage whether the morning’s wintry conditions contributed to the collision.
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or any events leading up to it.
