Children took on the role of pirates during the Parish of Ifield’s annual summer club last week.
Nearly 50 children were kept entertained every morning from Tuesday August 6 to Friday at Holy Trinity School as 13 volunteers from the parish provided games, arts, crafts, talent shows and sports.
‘Captain Dave Willis’, a local priest, said primary children from Bewbush, St Margaret’s and The Mill had played pirate-themed games and made craft items, including treasure chests.
He said: “They got very wet playing ‘splish, splish, splash’ yesterday. It’s the same as ‘duck, duck, goose’ except they have a cup of water and they drip it on each person’s head then pour it over one person.
“The main purpose of us being here is to have fun but we are also learning about Jesus.”
Volunteers even took part in ‘egg roulette’ where they took turns to smash hard boiled eggs on their foreheads, hoping not to pick up the one raw egg.
