MILD-mannered Richard Hannay is lured into a maze of murder and espionage in Wick Theatre Company’s next production.

Guy Steddon takes the lead role in The 39 Steps, at The Barn Theatre, Southwick.

He is joined by just three other actors, Sophie Lane, Mark Best and Phil Brown, for this thrilling spy adventure, mixed with madcap comedy and surreal slapstick.

Between them, they play 139 characters in 100 hilarious minutes, as Alfred Hitchcock’s entire movie masterpiece is brought to the stage, directed by Tony Brownings.

The cast manages to re-enact all of the characters, locations and famous scenes in the 1935 film thriller, with just a few props, theatrical ingenuity and split-second quick changes.

While seeking a frivolous night out at the theatre Hannay is lured into a world of intrigue by a mysterious woman claiming to be a spy. When she winds up dead in his flat, he flees London with the police hot on his trail.

Follow his adventures at The Barn Theatre, in Southwick Street, Southwick, from March 26 to 29 at 7.45pm daily. Tickets are £11 from box office on 01273 597094 or visit www.wicktheatre.co.uk for more information.
