Roads in two neighbourhoods have been selected for inclusion in the county council’s highway improvement scheme for 2016/17.
At a meeting of the East Crawley County Local Committee on Thursday (September 12), Woodfield Road, Northgate – encompassing Barnfield Road and Woolborough Road – was put forward as a priority from the Community Issues List.
The area including Weald Drive and Furnace Drive, in Furnace Green, was also put forward, although it was not on the issues list.
Regarding the speeding in the area, Duncan Crow, county councillor for Tilgate and Furnace Green, told the meeting: “There was a Community Speed Watch a few weeks ago and they caught several, including one person doing 71mph.
“I’m very conscious that the centre of Furnace Green is where a lot of pedestrians cross the road to get to the shops, get to church and get to school.”
The projects put forward help guide what investment is put into the highways.
Regarding the schemes which were not put forward this time, chairman Cllr Richard Burrett: “Nothing on this list is not going to happen, it’s simply a case of prioritising.”
