A development plan to build 103 homes in Pulborough is taking its next step forward amid opposition from residents and the parish council.
The application is for full permission to build homes on land north of Highfield, Stane Street, Codmore Hill.
Outline permission for the scheme was granted by Horsham District Council’s (HDC) development control south committee in February 2012.
The next application submitted to HDC addresses the landscape and scale of the development (reserved matters), which will be subject to another committee meeting and considered for full approval. In a letter to the applicant, on HDC’s planning portal, Pulborough District Council listed their concerns, claiming that the ‘plans do not conform to the original and are misleading’.
Other concerns include inaccuracies in the sketches, the height of the three-storey building, and which trees are to be felled.
Pulborough resident Sharon Curd submitted a letter of objection to HDC’s planning portal claiming that there is a ‘lack of employment opportunities’ in the village; it will create a ‘devastating impact’ on the roads, and the building works will cause an ‘inconvenience’ to residents.
Mrs Curd added: “The medical and school resources here are already stretched to the limit, so current residents will be adversely impacted by an influx of up to 400 people clambering for their share.
“The recent flooding shows how fragile Pulborough’s power grid is and putting more homes here will mean more people impacted when power lines come down.”
Local resident Claire Mariner also submitted a letter of objection on HDC’s portal.
She claimed that with the Oddstones development in place, if another application is approved it could create a ‘disjointed community’.
“This is too much development too fast and the local community is not being allowed to grow naturally with many families being introduced from other areas all at the same time creating a new type of disjointed community,” Mrs Mariner said.
