Families in need have received a generous helping hand thanks to an initiative by The Martlets Shopping Centre and the Salvation Army.

Ian Goodridge, who manages the Burgess Hill shopping centre, launched an appeal for donated Christmas presents and shoppers gave generously.

About 50 presents were donated and passed on to The Salvation Army for distribution to families in need of some Christmas cheer.

Major David Hall, Acting Manager at the Burgess Hill Salvation Army Centre, said: “On behalf of the Salvation Army I would like to say a huge thank you to The Martlets for hosting this appeal.

“I would also like to thank everyone who donated, it is incredibly generous and we really are over the moon.”

Centre Manager Ian Goodridge, added: “It was fantastic to see so many people from the local community take part in our Christmas present appeal.

The residents of Burgess Hill continuously prove how generous they are and this time was no exception. I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”

The appeal was the first of its kind held by the centre.
