Air pollution warning after Saharan dust combines with industrial emissions

Plenty of rain to come.

Plenty of rain to come.

Air pollution related to industrial emissions from continental Europe and Saharan dust remain high across West Sussex today (Thursday April 3).

The county council has urged people suffering with asthma, lung or heart problems to sign up to alerts on its website http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/

A forecast on the website reads: “Most areas will have a misty start but this will clear becoming very warm with hazy sunshine. There is a risk of showers, some heavy with thunder, developing across the region later in the day.

“Light south easterly winds will continue to import polluted air containing a mixture of industrial emissions from continental Europe and Saharan dust that will combine with locally emitted pollution.”
