Families visiting the Aldingbourne Country Centre can now get lost, and quickly found, after a new attraction has opened.

There were big celebrations as a new hedge maze was officially opened at the Aldingbourne Trust’s AGM on September 20.

It was attended by The Woodhorn Group, who sponsored the maze, trustees, the adults with learning disabilities supported by the charity, employees and supporters of the trust.

John Pitts, managing director of The Woodhorn Group, said: “We have a saying in farming that if you plant a tree it’s for the next generation to enjoy.

“Here at Aldingbourne we have planted 1,500 trees to create the maze for many future generations to enjoy and we have all been very proud to be associated with the Aldingbourne Trust.”

Made up of 1,500 privet plants, it is the biggest maze - based on per unit of plants - in Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey.

Work started in September 2015, which involved planning a design and preparing the ground where the privet was to be planted.

In November 2015, a team of hardly volunteers, including some from the Chichester Young Farmer’s Group, braved cold weather to plant all 1,500 privets in a single weekend.
