Handcross driver named after fatal Burgess Hill accident

A driver who died after his car left the B2036 between Ansty and Burgess Hill has been named by police.

Jay Ansell, 20, of Truggers, Handcross died after his car hit a tree in the early hours of Sunday (January 27) morning.

The Volkswagen Golf was spotted by another driver shortly after 3.30am, but police believe that the crash may have happened some time before that. Mr Ansell was sadly found dead in the wreckage.

Sergeant Mark Baker from the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit said: “The vehicle had cooled down when we arrived, so we believe that it could have left the road some time earlier. We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the car off the B2036 Cuckfield Road at any time before 3.30am.

Anyone who saw the car driving in the area or off the road where it crashed is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Southcott, or e-mail collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
