Residents with questions about the new garden waste collection service will have the chance to question Councillor Andrew Baldwin, Horsham District Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, during a ‘Live Facebook Chat’ in March.

Mr Baldwin (Con, Holbrook East) will be answering questions about the garden waste changes live on Horsham District Council’s Facebook page on Thursday 7 March from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

It was agreed by Horsham District Council in December 2012 that residents will be charged £29 a year to have a garden waste collection.

The council only has a legal duty to make arrangements to collect household waste and is now being squeezed to make difficult decisions to balance income against the cost of delivering services after severe cutbacks in central government funding.

It is hoped that residents feel that a charge of £29 for garden waste is still good value.

Information on the scheme has also been published on Horsham District Council’s website (www.horsham.gov.uk), along with a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ page.

The spring 2013 issue of the council’s ‘Horsham District News’ magazine also features the garden waste collection scheme and is being delivered to homes across the Horsham District this month.

Questions can be sent during the live chat or beforehand to contact@horsham.gov.uk and these will be posted online and put to Mr Baldwin during the chat.

Written comments will also be accepted and will be posted online during the chat, these can be sent to Communications, Horsham District Council, Park North, North Street, RH12 1RL.

Mr Baldwin said: “This is a great opportunity for residents to get their questions answered on this new scheme.

“The council has received lots of questions and comments on its social media sites already and I think it’s important that I address those who have concerns directly and hopefully answer any queries that people may have.”
