MORE than 200 entries were on display at Southwick and Fishersgate Horticultural Society’s summer show.
Held at Southwick Community Centre on Saturday, August 16, it was the society’s 96th summer flower show.
The winner of the Banksian Medal for most points in the show was Julie MacCulloch, while Dave Wells swept the board in the dahlia section.
A steady stream of visitors saw colourful displays of flowers, including dahlias, chrysanthemums and gladioli, as well as mouth-watering cooking and vegetables.
On the lawns, visitors were able to browse round the charity stalls, with entertainment from the Southwick Ukulele Players and homemade refreshments available.
There was a colourful display of poppy art by children in remembrance of the First World War. Pupils from Glebe Primary School in Southwick took first prize with their drawings of poppies. St John Ambulance Badgers came second with their lovely glitter poppies and third place went to Church Lane Nursery, where the children used hand prints for their poppy designs.
Glebe Primary School also put on a display of photographs, showing how they won a silver gilt award for Britain in Bloom’s Blooming Schools competition.
Southwick and Fishersgate Horticultural Society’s next show is on Saturday, October 25, at Southwick Community Centre. Meetings are held in the Garden Room at the centre on the first Tuesday of each month. Contact Julie MacCulloch on 01273 596707 or visit www.sfhorticulturalsociety.org.uk for more information.
