Former Steyning students feature on BGT

FIVE former Steyning Grammar School students are buzzing after being selected for televised Britain’s Got Talent auditions.

Their band, Half Crown, took part in the auditions in Cardiff on Wednesday, January 16, having got through the selection process in London in December.

David Gayler, 19, Frankie Harper, 19, Josh Cassidy-Stone,19, Charles Ray, 20, and Louie Syred,19, all attended the grammar school and their parents still live in the town.

The lads themselves mostly now live and work in Brighton, where the band plays regularly.

David’s mum, Erica Gayler, said: “Came back from Cardiff on a bit of a high!

“The audition was in front of Simon Cowell, Alicia Keys, Amanda Holden and David Walliams. They performed one of their own compositions.

“Alicia Keys was seen ‘seat dancing’ throughout their performance.

“We now wait to see if they are chosen for the live performances and public vote.”

Erica said the programme, filmed in front of 2,000 people, was due to be shown on ITV in the spring, when people will found out how the band got on.

Half Crown was formed in early September, 2009, and was mainly influenced by Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, The Kooks, John Mayer, The Kinks and Blur.

Brighton Noise says: “Their contagious energy, infectious melodies and strong range of vocals effortlessly capture the audience into the performance and will have you stamping your feet in no time.”
