Exhibitions held at Worthing Museum

ENTERTAINMENT in the town and a display of stained glass sculptures have been among recent exhibitions at Worthing Museum.
Louise Durham has been presenting her stained glass sculptures at the museum since Saturday, while an exhibition celebrating 200 years of entertainment in Worthing ended on Friday.
The exhibition on the town’s entertainment focused on how residents and tourists had engaged with venues like the pier and lido, as well as Worthing’s theatres and cinemas, during the last 200 years.
On at Worthing Museum until July 27, the exhibition included a social history collection, exploring home entertainment, such as television and music.
Both the museum and Worthing theatres have worked with students from Northbrook College to create new artworks based around the exhibition theme, which were also on display.
Gerry Connolly, curator of historic collections, said: “As a seaside town, Worthing punched above its weight in terms of venues and events to attract tourists to the area.”
The exhibition showcased pieces from many areas of the museum’s collections, including costume and social history and art, some of which had rarely been displayed.
Shoreham-based artist Louise Durham will display her work at the museum until September.
She discovered her artistic side by attending an evening class 10 years ago and this passion for glass making evolved into what is billed as “a unique art form”, using recycled timber from the beach.
The glass is displayed inside recycled groyne wood found on local beaches, and the wood stands upright to capture the sun.
All the work on display will also be for sale.
Louise said: “I find the true magic at the end of the making process is when the light hits the glass and they come alive with the colours radiating onto the wood and the garden. I now have a mini kiln so I am making small stained glass shapes such as hearts. It is so exciting.”
