Exhibition on plan to tackle Storrington air quality

Storrington residents are being invited to find out more about the council’s Air Quality Action Plan at a public exhibition.
Held between Monday February 18 and Friday March 1 at the former Wine Rack shop in Old Mill Square, the exhibition will show villagers how Horsham District Council aims to tackle traffic-related pollution.
Times when the exhibition will be manned will be posted at the shop as well as on Horsham District Council’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
Since the Action Plan was published in November 2012, a study into the air quality impacts of various traffic management options has been undertaken and this has also been made available on the council’s website.
The Storrington Traffic Management Options Appraisal report has been prepared by air quality specialists. Data from an origin destination survey into traffic movements around the village was used in the study.
The purpose of the report was to ensure that the Action Plan Steering Group could be given options, based on scientifically robust reasoning, which will help reduce traffic related pollution.
Not all the measures that were considered for their air quality impacts are to be progressed.
The concentration is to be on those measures that would be most beneficial in air quality terms, taking into account their cost and feasibility.
The findings of the Traffic Management Options Appraisal report and an overview of the local air quality management process will be displayed.
There will also be opportunities to speak to representatives from the steering group, which comprises officers and members from HDC, West Sussex County Council and representatives from Storrington Parish Council.
The steering group has the responsibility to agree the measures to be implemented to improve air quality within Storrington.
Information about this plan will also be displayed at Storrington Library in Ryecroft Lane, between Monday February 25 and Saturday March 2.
Sue Rogers (Con, Steyning), HDC’s cabinet member for a safer and healthier district, said: “I am pleased with the progress of this work to address the air quality issues in Storrington and this consultation is an important part of this process.”
As a ‘live’ document, the Action Plan will be updated as more information becomes available and will need to be reviewed each year as part of an air quality progress report.
Comments are also being welcomed during this consultation period, which ends on Friday 15 March, and can be submitted on the Council’s website.
