Everest trek to fund summer retreat for wounded soldiers

An ex-Royal Marine is appealing for sponsors to support his trek up Mount Everest to help raise money for a seaside retreat for wounded soldiers.
Stuart Bourne, 41, from Ifield, is aiming to complete a 39-mile trek to the Everest base camp in September to raise money for two charities: Help Our Wounded Royal Marines and Adam’s Hoofing Hut.
The Keswick Close resident said Adam’s Hoofing Hut was an appeal in memory of a Marine who was killed in Afghan at the age of 25.
He said: “Adam Brown was killed in service. He had talked about buying a beach hut.
“We’re trying to get enough money to buy a beach hut in Christchurch so lads who are injured or have post traumatic stress can go down there with their families and get away from it for a while.
“His family set up the charity. They need £160,000 and they’re over the £100,000 mark so it’s the last little push.”
Stuart has taken part in many fundraising events since Help Our Royal Marines was set up in 2010.
The father-of-one explained that the charity never uses donations to pay for events so he and his trek partner, Andy Screen, who is also an ex-Royal Marine, need £2,000 each to pay for flights, accommodation and a trek guide.He said: “I don’t usually train for anything but I will for this one. I’ve got to give up smoking for a start! It will be tough to trek in the climate.”
