A TALENTED Year 5 pupil at Lavant House School has won an award after her artwork was displayed at Pallant House Gallery.

Emily John’s artwork, depicting Chichester cathedral and harbour, won the People’s Choice award at an exhibition of children’s artwork last year.

“I was very proud and pleased when I found out that I was the winner and my parents were very happy too,” said Emily.

“My painting tried to celebrate the particular light at Chichester Harbour.

“It features Chichester Cathedral too and I found out that our cathedral is the only one in the country that can be seen from a harbour.

“I used several different types of mediums including coloured pencils, pastels and watercolours to get the effect of light falling on water.”

Junior co-ordinator at Lavant House, Kate Wade said: “Emily’s painting was so colourful and well executed that we did hope it would win something.

“To be the people’s choice though was the icing on the cake for her.”

Emily was presented with her award in a school assembly by the chairman and co-ordinator of Chichester Fine and Decorative Art Society.

All the artwork in the exhibition celebrated the theme of light.
