Commitment to Worthing Controlled Parking Zone extension

Worthing County Local Committee has re-iterated its commitment to the Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) extension in Worthing.

Since the CPZ was extended to areas in the north and east of the town, parking issues in Ham Road and various other roads outside of the new zones have been highlighted to the County Council.

The situation in these roads is being monitored and following a period of six months, a full review will be undertaken by the CLC.

Worthing CLC Chairman Bob Smytherman said: “The County Local Committee is satisfied with the consultation process which was carried out before the new zones were introduced.

“During that process, the majority of Ham Road residents who responded told us they did not wish to be included in the CPZ.”

He added: “It is important to stress that while there have been complaints from some residents in Ham Road, there have also been favourable responses to the scheme.”

County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Pieter Montyn, said: “The whole point of a CPZ is to make sure residents can park in their street.

“Experience shows there is always an initial ‘bedding-in period’ after a scheme is introduced, giving residents the opportunity to get used to the new arrangements.

“It is unrealistic to review one section of Ham Road now when the CLC is going to review the new zones in their entirety in six months’ time.”
