Central Sussex College is holding an Access Information Evening for those who are looking to train for a new career, but need a degree.

The College offers a number of Access to Higher Education Diplomas which provide the entry qualifications needed to study for degrees in nursing, midwifery, social work, teaching, psychology and many more.

The Access Information Evening will be held on Tuesday, March 5 at 6pm, at the College’s sixth form campus in Harlands Road, Haywards Heath, for those looking to find out about the one-year courses, which run at both the Crawley and Haywards Heath campuses.

Student Geoff Smith, from Burgess Hill, recently completed an Access Diploma in Social Care Professions. He will now study nursing at university, and hopes to progress to a Masters Degree in order to become a Nurse Practitioner.

He said: “I chose to study at Central Sussex College because the course was just what I wanted and the teaching staff are excellent – they are knowledgeable and make subjects interesting to learn and also have a good sense of humour! The IT resources are good and up to date, and the resources in the LRC are invaluable.”

Virginia Foord, from Haywards Heath, also completed the Access Diploma in Social Care Professions, and will take-up a place at the University of Brighton this month to study for a Degree in Adult Nursing. Virginia is delighted that she will now be able to pursue a career in nursing after being away for the education system for a number of years.

She said: “I would recommend the Access course to anyone who has ambitions to study at university but doesn’t yet have the qualifications. I have always worked in the Care profession, so to get the chance to qualify as a nurse at last is a dream come true.”

Access Diplomas are designed flexibly so that students can combine studies with work or caring responsibilities. There are no formal entry equirements and the College’s experienced tutors provide extensive academic support to ease students back into study.
