Chichester man assaulted
Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a local man in his 50s in Chichester on Monday December 31 2012.
The victim was shopping in Waitrose at around 1.15pm when he was approached by another man in the vegetable aisle. An altercation ensued and the victim was punched in the face, causing his glasses to break and scratch his face.
PC Emma Jeacock from Chichester Response Investigation Team said: “This appears to be an unprovoked attack and we are appealing to any customers who were in the store and witnessed the incident and have not yet spoken to officers to please get in touch. You can call 101 quoting serial 568 of 31/12 or alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The victim did not require hospital treatment.
A 57-year-old man from Chichester, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and has been bailed until Sunday, 27 January pending further enquiries.
