A BODY was pulled from the sea near Worthing Pier earlier this evening.
Around 20 people, including police, lifeguards, paramedics, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and members of the public attempted to rescue the person from the water according to an eye witness.
The discovery was made just before 6pm on the east side of the pier.
The witness said the person was pulled from the sea on a mat provided by Splashpoint and was taken to an ambulance where they were pronounced dead.
All those who tried to save the person’s life were ‘heroes’ said the witness.
They added: “Every single one, they all made an effort to save their life, a very brave effort for all concerned.”
It is believed the body was first spotted near Splashpoint and was carried to the pier by the current.
