Measures to deal with parking issues that bother Billingshurst residents have been proposed by West Sussex County Council.

The county council has responded to the results of a parking survey, carried out in the village in 2011, by drawing up proposals for a Residents’ Parking Scheme near the train station.

Some changes to double yellow lines in other roads have also been suggested.

A number of suggestions from residents and businesses were incorporated in the scheme.

The roads included are:

• Brookers Road;

• Brookfield Way;

• Chestnut Road;

• Daux Avenue;

• Daux Road;

• Daux Way;

• Lower Station Road;

• Myrtle Lane;

• Rosier Way;

• Station Road;

• St Mary’s Close; and

• Woodlands Way.

Officers are inviting residents and businesses to tell them what they think of the proposal as part of an informal consultation.

About 400 homes and businesses in these roads have been sent letters, which include maps of the proposals and a pre-paid envelope for written responses.

Notices have been put up on lampposts in the streets affected.

The public can also attend two drop-in sessions at The Centre, Billingshurst Village Hall, Roman Way, Billingshurst, West Sussex, RH14 9EW to view the proposals and discuss it with officers.

The drop-in sessions take place on Thursday, March 14 from 3pm to 7pm and on Saturday, March 16 from 10am to 2pm.

No appointment is necessary.

The proposals will remain available for viewing at The Centre until Friday, April 5, during normal opening hours.

Brad Watson, Chairman of the North Horsham County Local Committee, said: “We need to find out if the people of Billingshurst want a scheme like this, if they like the idea of the scheme but want some changes, or if they want it completely scrapped.

“If there is support for such a scheme, the next stage would be for a formal public consultation to be held ahead of a decision to make it law.

“Either way, the more people who let us know how they feel about the scheme now the better informed we will be.”

The deadline for comments is Friday, April 5.

These may be sent in writing to: The Parking Strategy Team, West Sussex County Council, The Grange, Tower Street, Chichester, PO19 1RH; or by e-mail to: parking@westsussex.gov.uk
