Southwick Opera will be performing the story of the love triangle on board a luxury liner from May 10 to 14.

Simon Gray, director and conductor, said: “We are delighted with our cast, and so pleased to announce that the role of Reno Sweeney will be played by Lucy Newton who has a wealth of professional experience, appearing in touring and West End musicals. Her sister Tania Newton, currently appearing in Mrs Henderson Presents at the Noel Coward Theatre, played Sally in our production of Follies in 2013, so we are keeping in in the family!”

The story, which is set aboard the SS American, follows Reno’s travels from New York to England. Her friend Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Moonface Martin, public enemy number one, and his sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

Grace Riach, who plays Erma, said: “I am very excited to be back on stage with Southwick Opera after appearing with the company in Follies. I love the character of Erma, her humour and light-heartedness, and I can’t wait to get tapping again!”

Ciaran Kiely, CIARAN KIELY who plays Elisha Whitney, said: “I have appeared in local productions for nearly twenty years but never before with Southwick Opera. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to appear in this great Cole Porter show at the Barn Theatre”.

Performances at the Barn Theatre take place from at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets are available from 01273 597094 or from www.southwickcommunitycentre.org.uk. Further information available from Simon Gray on 07885 833579.
