VARIOUS anniversaries will be marked at this year’s Shoreham WordFest, drawn together under the theme Invisible Threads.
The centenary of world war one, Dylan Thomas’s 100th birthday and Shakespeare’s 450th will all be marked.
Elizabeth Garber, from the WordFest team, said: “Events marking these will sit alongside some of literature’s most intriguing female characters and the brilliant authors – like former poet laureate, Andrew Motion – peppering our programme.
“Commemoration, conflict, celebration – several invisible threads intermingle through the festival we have planned.
“Wordfest 2014 is a veritable tapestry of ideas that connect us to our past, connect us to one another.”
Winners of WordFest’s Adur schools writing competition were presented with prizes at an awards ceremony at the Sir Robert Woodard Academy, in Lancing, last night. They will feature in the Adur Festival.
Shoreham WordFest will run from September 25 to October 12, and it will feature talks, workshops and performances at various venues.
