Angmering Library is to close temporarily next month while new self-service book machines are installed.
It is part of county council plans to modernise the service by fitting the state-of-the-art terminals in all of its 36 branches.
The library, in Arundel Road, will be closed from 1pm on Friday January 4 to upgrade its IT and electrical systems and accommodate the new equipment.
Readers will still be able to borrow up to 20 books or DVDs before the temporary closure or use nearby branches in East Preston, Rustington and Littlehampton.
It will then reopen at 1pm on Monday January 21.
Lionel Barnard, County Council Deputy Leader who oversees the Library Service, said many readers in West Sussex were already seeing the benefits of the new machines.
He added: “They also help cut down on long queues and make borrowing a quick and simple process.
“The temporary closure will last no longer than 18 days to keep disruption to a minimum.”
