The Government’s planning inspectorate has today (Monday, February 8) overturned Chichester District Council’s refusal of the new homes on land south of Clappers Lane, between Bracklesham and Earnley.

Outline planning approval has now been granted to developer Wates Developments Ltd, who lodged the appeal against the district council’s refusal.

It draws to a close a long-standing battle between the developer and many local residents and parish councillors on the Manhood Peninsula who were against building on the site.

Wates scaled back the development to 110 homes after losing a previous appeal for 160 homes on the same site.

An application for a full award of costs from Wates Developments Ltd was refused.
