County firefighters’ busy weekend

FIREFIGHTERS had a busy weekend across the county with a variety of incidents, from rescuing a sheep to dousing chimney fires.

Here is a summary of the main incidents.

Friday

MANOR ROAD LANCING (1pm) - car in collision with fence - engine bay of car pierced by post - no persons trapped.

OUTSIDE BANK - SOUTH ROAD WORTHING (12.30pm) discarded smoking materials ignited bin.

FLATS - BRIGHTON ROAD WORTHING (3.15pm) - Flooding from upper floor flat entering lower floor flat and affecting electrics.

A24 JUNCTION SOUTH OF WASHINGTON ROUNDABOUT WASHINGTON (5pm) - car and tractor hedge trimmer in accident - person taken to hospital by ambulance for check up.

INDUSTRIAL UNIT - CHARTWELL ROAD LANCING (5.15pm) - small fire in sawdust extractor unit.

LATHAM ROAD SELSEY (11.20pm) - car overturned on road - elderly male released before arrival of firefighters - another elderly male extricated using hydraulic rescue equipment and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Saturday

GREENCOURT DRIVE BOGNOR REGIS (3am) - Fire in refrigerated van and contents, 50 per cent destroyed.

UNDERGROWTH OFF A24 FINDON VALLEY (10.25am) - camp fire extinguished.

CHIDHAM LANE CHIDHAM (2pm) - small fire in wooden bus shelter (arson).

SACKVILLE LANE EAST GRINSTEAD (3.30pm) - large pile of leaves in undergrowth on fire.

A24 BUCKS BARN - NORTH OF TRAFFIC LIGHTS (3.30pm) - two cars in accident - no persons trapped - engine of one car still running following accident.

WATERSIDE PUB - STOCKBRIDGE ROAD CHICHESTER (5pm) - Chimney fire.

REAR GARDEN OF HOUSE - WOODLAND AVENUE BURGESS HILL (6.20pm) - Bonfire.

1ST FLOOR FLAT - HIGHBANK HAYWARDS HEATH (7.20pm) - Flooding coming from under the sink in first floor flat.

HOUSE - EAST STREET AMBERLEY (7.45pm) - chimney well alight.

PUB - NYETIMBER LANE PAGHAM (7.45pm) - Chimney fire in three storey building - 1st and 2nd floor heavily smoke logged - building evacuated.

Sunday

R/O HOUSE - KEWILWORTH CLOSE BEWBUSH CRAWLEY (2.15am) - Fire involving 10-15 metres of confer tree - fire spread from stolen and burnt out motorbike adjacent to fencing.

CARMAN WALK CRAWLEY (4.40am) - two domestic wheelie bins destroyed by fire - one fence panel 60 per cent damaged by fire.

FIRST FLOOR WARDEN CONTROLLED FLAT - HORSHAM ROAD FINDON (2.35pm) - small fire in kichen out on arrival - 50% of flat damaged by smoke.

HOUSE - CENTRAL AVENUE BOGNOR (3.15pm) - small fire in kitchen out on arrival - elderly female occupier checked over by ambulance paramedics.

OFF THE THATCHWAY ANGMERING (5.30pm) - sheep in two foot of water and mud rescued.

Monday

A285 UPWALTHAM (5.20am) - car in collision with wall - one man extricated using heavy cutting equipment and taken to hospital by ambulance.
