Countryside fun for half-term

Parents looking for half-term fun for their children have the option of visiting Buchan Country Park for a variety of countryside activities.

The park, near Crawley, has organised several events to help families get closer to nature.

The week starts with a special Halloween celebration on Monday October 29 (2.30-5pm), with an afternoon of activities including pumpkin carving before listening to some spooky tales at twilight.

An adult must accompany children. Tickets cost £7 per child (pumpkin included). There is no charge for the accompanying adult.

Join the rangers for their popular Family Bushcraft day on Tuesday October 30 (9.45am-3pm).

Children and their parents will be able to learn how to build shelters and camp fires in a traditional way.

Tickets cost £10 per person (including hot food for lunch) and a family ticket (four people) is £30.

On Wednesday October 31, a second Bushcraft session is planned for unaccompanied children and teens (8-15 years). Tickets cost £18 each (including lunch and refreshments).

Then on Thursday November 1, more adventurous youngsters (8-15 years) are invited to sample life as a countryside ranger by becoming ‘Buccaneer Rangers’.

That means they will be learning new skills, helping the park’s wildlife and perhaps even making the first steps to discovering a future career.

Tickets cost £5 per child.

Advance booking is essential as places are limited.
