THE sale of two cottages to Steyning Grammar School has been endorsed.

The detached properties in School Lane are among 11 properties declared surplus to requirements by West Sussex County Council.

Michael Brown, cabinet member for finance, has endorsed the decision ‘to enable their onward disposal’.

The decision will come into effect at the end of the call-in period, unless the procedure is activated before the deadline, which is tomorrow at 5pm.

Fletcherscroft and Whykeham Cottage are adjacent to Steyning Grammar School’s School Lane site.

Although formerly occupied by caretakers and school boarding house staff, both have been vacant for some years and are in a poor state of repair.

The properties are under offer to the Steyning Grammar School Foundation for additional boarding house use.

The council said the sale would ‘yield capital receipts’.
