A 70-year-old driver has died after his car collided with a tree near the Whiteways Lodge roundabout, police have confirmed.

It is thought the man, from Chichester, suffered a medical episode at the wheel before the crash, which happened yesterday afternoon on the A29.

He was rushed to St Richard’s Hospital but later died.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “At 1.25pm on Monday, December 28, emergency services were called to the A29 Bury Hill near the Whiteways Lodge roundabout where a Nissan X-Trail car had collided with a tree.

“The driver, a 70-year-old man from Chichester, was taken to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, but sadly died.

“The A29 was closed between the roundabout and The Street, Bury, until 4.16pm while the incident was dealt with and the scene examined.”
