Both Chichester and Midhurst have been named amongst the best places to live in Britain.

Chichester placed third on The Sunday Times Best Places to Live list for the South East, published today.

Midhurst only just missed out on a top ten place in the region, placing 11th.

The entire list of Britain’s best places to live is set to be published by the newspaper this Sunday, and of the 17 places in the South East to make it, Chichester and Midhurst were the only two from West Sussex.

The annual Sunday Times supplement combines data and statistics such as crime rates, house prices and school performance as its writers aim to ‘compile the definitive top locations to make your home’.

The locations are selected for offering the best quality of life to the widest number of people, and combining desirable features such as a positive community spirit, good local shops and services and attractive outdoor spaces.

Kingsham in Oxfordshire was crowned as the Best Place to Live in the South East, with Amersham, in Buckinghamshire, just edging Chichester into third.

Best Places to Live, home editor Helen Davies said: “Britain is full of great places to live, and our annual supplement celebrates the richness on offer from bustling market towns and buzzing city centres to sociable suburbs and sleepy hamlets.

“We go beyond dry statistics, drawing on personal experience and the expertise of our writers, to create the definitive list of the best places to live in the UK.”

The Sunday Times is looking for people to share their favourite places to live on social media using the hashtag #bestplacestolive.
