Charles Avenue in Chichester will hold its first community fun day tomorrow.

The summer party has been organised by the residents group CARE (Charles Avenue Residents Engagement), with help from housing association Affinity Sutton.

The Charles Avenue summer party, from 10am to 4pm, is open to all and free to attend.

It is is being put on in partnership with West Sussex County Council, Chichester District Council and Sustrans. The event also involves Sussex Police, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum.

The emergency services will be present with their equipment and there will be activities available from the museum, along with arts and crafts, bubble fun, a library bus and much more.

At lunchtime, guests will gather for a teddy bear’s picnic.

Tracy Watkins, founder of the residents group, said: “We want every resident of Charles Avenue to come together, and have fun and make new friends.

“It is really important to feel you are part of a community and not feel you are alone”.

Organisers hope this will be the first of many such events to be held throughout the year, as the residents have been working tirelessly to help strengthen a sense of community, which they say is now even more important in light of the economic climate and instability.
