Fisbourne Roman Palace is offering a unique opportunity to learn Latin next month.

On Saturday, April 22nd, the Roman Palace is hosting a one-day Latin for Beginners course designed to bring the language to life, giving participants a chance to meet the classical authors and dip into their writing.

Through a mixture of presentation and discussion, the course gives an insight into the basis of many English words and includes the chance to hear the sound of classical Latin read aloud.

This enjoyable and informative one-day course for adults will be led by George Sharpley from The Latin Qvarter. The course is ideal for those interested in gaining a glimpse of the past through language. The mixture of historical references, vocabulary and grammar makes this an inspiring course for all, from complete beginners to those who would like to brush up on their knowledge.

Head of Learning at the Roman Palace, Katrina Burton, said “George Sharpley’s relaxed and good humoured approach makes this course an enjoyable and inspiring day, whatever your level of Latin. It is amazing to hear the classics brought to life here at this incredible Roman site.”

“We will also be running a follow-on course over October 14 and 15 which will delve deeper into the writings of classical authors to build up a fascinating picture of life and language in ancient Rome”.
