STEYNING Camera Club has won the annual Sussex Photographic Federation Projected Digital Image (PDI) Championship.

There were 19 clubs competing for the prestigious trophy, held in Burgess Hill earlier this month.

Images were appraised by Caroline Colegate, Glyn Bareham and Paul Adams in two categories – the development class for beginners and intermediate photographers, and the open category for more advanced workers.

Steyning came second by a single point in both categories but won the overall championship.

Two members were awarded bronze medals, Sara Procter in the development category for The Artist Observed, and Sue Lambert in the open category for The Red Coat – The Life Saver.

Club chairman Mike Williams said: “We knew it was a close run thing between clubs in the two categories but were absolutely delighted to learn that overall we were judged to be champions of Sussex.

“It was a great feeling and I am immensely proud of the club and members’ for such a fantastic achievement.”

In the overall championship, the top three clubs were Steyning on 185 points, Eastbourne on 179 points and East Grinstead on 177 points.

The top club in the development category was Mid Sussex on 91 points, with Steyning, Eastbourne and Chichester a close joint second, all on 90 points.

East Grinstead topped the open category on 96 points, followed by Steyning on 95 points and Eastbourne on 89 points.
