VIDEO: Worthing mayor officially opens shop

His booming voice drew a crowd to Warwick Street, in Worthing town centre, this morning for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The shop has actually been open since the end of last year but until recently it was sporting the old J. Sainsbury shop sign from years gone by.

With the new Guild Care signage recently put in place, the official ceremony was organised and Worthing mayor Sean McDonald was there at 11am to cut the ribbon.

“It does give me great pleasure and it is a great honour to do this as well,” he said.

“This is the eighth shop, at no.21 Warwick Street. I wish you all the best in here. Every time I go into a charity shop, I buy something.”

Guild Care retail manager Jonathan Bishop said it was good to have a unit in the town cetnre.

“There has been a lot of positive support from the local community,” he added.

“If anyone has an interest in helping for a few hours a week, please get in touch. We rely on donations and would welcome good quality stock for the shop.”

The shop is run by manager Andreia Rica and deputy manager Della Griffiths, with a team of volunteers.

Andreia said: “It is a really good shop and a really good location. We have a good space at the back to work in, which helps us to sort the donations.

“We have lovely volunteers working with us and the community is just starting to know about us here. We have loyal customers coming in from the other Guild Care shops and we are starting to build up our own regulars.

“People like our furniture range and the books are always popular but there is a mix of everything, so something for everyone.”
