EMERGENCY services were scrambled to the back of Swan Walk in Horsham after a man was crushed by a delivery crate this morning (Wednesday 12).
A South East Coast Ambulance rushed to the scene around 9am to find the man lying at the back of a Superdrug lorry.
One witness said the man was ‘screaming’ and ‘crying out in pain’ as the large crate loaded with confectionary and other items came crashing down on him.
An air ambulance landed in Horsham Park at 9.25am and three members of crew were seen bolting through the town centre.
A cordon was quickly set up as a number of paramedics attempted to recover the conscious man.
A spokesperson from Superdrug said: “We can confirm there was an incident at our Horsham store this morning concerning one of our delivery drivers who is now being treated in hospital.
“The health and safety of our customers and colleagues is always our primary concern; at this time our priority is the wellbeing of our colleague, and we will be offering any help we can to aid his recovery.”
Updates will follow.
