A team of researchers at St Mary Magdalene's Church in South Bersted uncovered information and pictures about the 104 men on their Roll of Honour, which they will use to 'form an exhibition' as part of the 'There But Not There' event.

Reverend Tim Crook said: "(This will) accompany the silhouettes and the display will be adorned with 300 handmade poppies and 100 white crosses made by a team of helpers from thechurch.

"The display has been supported in part by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust."

Tim said the congregation are also making films, recording WW1 poetry, floral displays and creating a prayer corner as well as named poppy pebbles for every man lost.

He added: "School groups will be invited to turn into a giant poppy on the chancel floor.

"There will also be a thought-provoking art installation called, 'Should it Matter' by artist Marjoire Paniccia on display."

Tim said it is 'one of the biggest events we have put on' and everyone involved is 'very much looking forward to it'.

"We are fascinated by the results our research is providing whilst also being poignant and emotional," he said.

Doors will open to the public during weekends and half term 2-4pm between October 17 - November 11.

Tim said schools and groups are welcome to visit and should contact the vicar via the website to arrange their visit, where more information about opening times can also be found.
