AN Orthopaedic surgeon will take on the Worthing Birdman for the third time at the weekend in memory of his late wife.

Andrew Jarvis, 66, of Elverlands Close, Ferring, has spent six months preparing the craft, on weekends and at evening classes at Northbrook College, and believes it could complete the 100 metre course.

He said: “I’ve always been fascinated by the birdman rally because it’s such a unique challenge really.

I have no sense of fear. You have to switch off the fear factor and just do it because there is no way back.

This is designed to fly fast. I think it’s capable of doing the full distance.

He said ideally there would be a westerly wind of 10 miles per hour to help him reach the optimum distance.
