Driver dies in A24 traffic accident

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision southbound on the A24, Basing Hill, Ashington, at around 9pm yesterday (Tuesday).

A 49-year-old man from Lambeth, South London, died after the convertible Lexus SC 430 he was driving left the carriageway, coming to rest in a field.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No passengers were in the vehicle.

Both southbound lanes were closed temporarily until around 1.30am, while the road was made safe by the Highways Agency and police.
