PAINTINGS by people of all ages were enjoyed at Steyning Art Group’s annual exhibition.

Member Patricia Gill said the show, at the Steyning Centre on Saturday, went amazingly well.

“We had a good turnout, considering the rain,” she added.

“We made lots of sales, and the tea and homemade cakes went down well.”

The exhibition included a display of winners from the annual poppy painting competition, organised by the Steyning branch of the Royal British Legion.

Patricia added: “We had many young families visiting, who wanted to view their children’s paintings and have photographs alongside them.”

Mr Lewis Whittaker, chairman of Steyning RBL, was so impressed with the standard of work, he has asked the art group to help with a special project next year.

Patricia explained: “We have been commissioned to do a painting for them in 2014, celebrating 100 years since the beginning of the first world war.”

Pam Perceval-Maxwell, publicity officer for Steyning RBL, said: “The RBL branch are very grateful to the art group for their stirling efforts in judging all the pictures and to the local businesses who so kindly donated the prizes.”
