A sensory photographer explains: '˜There are no limits when you love what you do'

A photographer from Horsham is setting out to show that sight problems are not a barrier to being a photographer.

Kate Small, from Bennetts Road, describes herself as having pin prick vision of 1.2mm, no peripheral vision, and extreme hyper-sensitivity to light.

She told the County Times: “Having sight problems is not a disadvantage; simply means I see things through smell, touch and sound.

“I feel my photos are a little slice of the United Kingdom and its nature and natural wonders.

“There are no limits when you love what you do.

“Doing this has enabled me to see the country in which I live again and share what I see with others in the hope that it might change people’s view of those with sight issues in the photographic field, and in turn encouraging others with sight issues to give it a go.

“I am 100 per cent self- motivated in learning how to do this.

“My first exhibition was in 2012, which gave a platform to show the work of a differently able person to those with and without disabilities.

“In 2013 I was diagnosed as having had a brain stem stroke. Sadly, in June of 2016, I was advised I had had a further brain stem stroke which has taken some of my hearing, however I have high hopes that with a hearing aid I will be able to continue with my passion for sensory photography and showing the art form for what it is to the world.”
