I was really pleased to see your paper’s support for the 20’s Plenty campaign in Chichester. As a resident of Tangmere I am very concerned about the excessive speed of motorists through the village. Motorists appear to use the village as a cut-through from one part of the A27 to another.
I attended a parish council meeting on July 14 to put to the councillors that Tangmere should also be involved in moves to reduce the speed limit throughout the village to 20mph. The parish council wholeheartedly supported this proposal.
You wrote ‘it is unfortunate that this campaign comes at a time when the county council is looking for savings rather than handing out money’. According the 20’s Plenty website (http://www.20splentyforus.org.uk/), changing the speed limit of a road costs approximate £333. The cost of a fatal accident on a road (including the human cost, medical and ambulance services and lost output) is upwards of £1.6 million.
